Casual belts are where leather gets to show off. A thicker strap, a wider 35–38 mm profile and a solid brass or brushed steel buckle look right with denim, chinos and linen trousers, and get better looking every year as the leather darkens and softens.
Width. Jeans have wider belt loops, typically 40 mm or more. A 38 mm belt fills them properly and stops the trousers from shifting. A 35 mm belt is a good compromise if you also wear it with chinos.
Thickness. Look for 3.8–4 mm. A thick strap keeps its shape, does not roll over at the top edge and stands up to heavier denim.
Buckle. Solid brass develops a warm, slightly darker tone over time, which suits tan and brown leather. Brushed steel looks cleaner and works with black and darker browns.
Colour. Tan and medium brown are the most versatile casual colours, and go with white sneakers, brown boots and loafers alike. A black casual belt suits black boots and darker denim.
Full-grain leather is left with its natural surface, so it absorbs oils, light and wear. Over months, a tan belt deepens to a richer honey colour and the creases from your buckle become part of its character. Corrected-grain and bonded leathers are sealed under a coating, so they cannot patina; they only scuff and peel.
Jeans often sit lower on the hip than formal trousers. If yours do, go one size up from the standard trouser waist + 2 rule. Our size guide explains how to measure an existing belt for an exact fit.
38 mm fills most jeans loops properly. 35 mm works if you also want to wear the belt with chinos.
Yes. Our tan is a natural oiled full-grain finish, so it deepens to a richer honey brown with wear and light. This patina is a sign of real full-grain leather.
